As a rider in the industry for many years I have ridden all types of tires on different terrain. Although tires don’t completely dictate your ride. I am going to make sense of tire choice for different types of terrain.
The type of terrain is the most important factor for tires. Downhill to road and everything in between can be used on any surface. But trying to find the best tire for what you ride can take a long time. Look at weight, compound, width and tread when purchasing tires.
If you like fast rolling go with a lower weight and minimal resistance and small knobs. This is great for jumping, commuting, and less technical trails.
There is a vast variety, factor in what you relish the most in your rides and what terrain you ride most.
If you like riding rough technical trails you will look for a more heavy duty tire, one that will excel because of its pattern and compound.
Compound is extremely important . Maxxis Kenda , Michelin , Continental. All are good choices.
I personally love Continental tires. I used there Kryptotal /Argotal tires for downhill, then faster rolling kings for Cross country. Then there dirt jump tire as well.
The Argotal and Kryptotal are made with soft rubber pushed through the tire to create this amazing amount of traction. I highly recommend them for DH enduro type use.
If your dirtjuming get a tire with little tread and meant for use in the catagory.
